In this episode, we hike the Kanarraville falls in Zion National Park. There's a slot canyon that is similar to the narrows and that is a great alternative if the narrows are closed. Several waterfalls with ladder access inside the canyon provide lots of excitement for hikers of all experience levels. The best thing about this hike is the location. Located only 5 minutes from Red Ledge RV Resort in beautiful Kanarraville Utah. If you like this video, please be sure to SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT, LIKE, and SHARE. Take a walk down the beautiful Kanarraville Falls Slot canyon near Kanarraville, UT. Descend waterfalls and walk down a stream and look all around at the beautiful red rock walls.
This place has always facsinated me so with some time to kill we decided to take a visit and learn a little more about the weird structure in the side of the mountain in Goshen, UT. The Tintic Standard Reduction Mill was built in 1920 and was used as a refinery for gold, silver, copper, and lead. It operated a short 4 years before shutting down due to new refining technology. At its peak the refinery processed 200 tons of ore a year. What you are seeing are the remains of water tanks, crushers, roasters, leaching tanks, and drain boxes.
Quick video of the Lower Calf Creek Falls in the vicinity of the Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument. Calf Creek Falls is a waterfall that plunges approximately 126 feet from sandstone cliffs into a deep pool below. The pool nestled at the base of the falls becomes a perfect swimming hole for a hot summer day. Reaching Lower Calf Creek Falls is not complicated. The trail into the falls is approximately three miles long and it takes about 1 ½ hours of hiking one way to reach the falls. You can access the trailhead from the Calf Creek campground. Hiking is moderately difficult. It is a mostly flat trail that follows along Calf Creek. There are a few sections of deep sand which will slow your pace as you journey to the falls. Early morning is the best time to start out on this hike. This will help you avoid the bulk of the desert heat as you trek back and forth from Lower Calf Creek Falls. You will want to bring along a swimsuit to enjoy the fresh and cool water. Wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses to protect you from the sun. http://www.TheTrekPlanner.com The Farmington Canyon Mine is located about 3 miles up from the mouth of Farmington Canyon in Farmington City Utah. The Utah Department of Natural Resources has closed this mine. It is now impossible to enter. Named for the water fall that flows out of the side of the cliff, this trail is a local favorite. The trail provides spectacular views of Zion National Park and beyond. The water that flows over the falls is supplied by Navajo Lake through an underground lava tube or sink hole. The water flows a couple miles underground through the tube before exiting at the Virgin River Rim. (Please note, the lava tube is closed to travel due to the low levels of oxygen and high water flows.) Cameras are a must!
USE LINKS AT BOTTOM TO SKIP AHEAD DESCRIPTION HAS DETAILED INFORMATION June 5 2016 After setting up our tents at Watchman Campground, we spent our first day in Zion National Park seeing the typical sights, The Narrows and Emerald Pools. RECOMMENDATIONS- reserve campsites 6 months in advance. Parking lots are FULL after 10 am, you will have to use a shuttle if you don't have a campsite or room at the Lodge. Park Shuttles are FREE, frequent, and easy to use. THE EMERALD POOLS - the first 2 pools are an easy mile each way, it is a little tougher to get up the last 0.4 mile to the top pool but worth the effort. There really isn't much to say about this one other than DO NOT MISS THIS TRAIL if you visit Zion. It's easy, and AmAzing. The waterfalls are not huge but still just wonderful/ The first pool alone is worth seeing if you have mobility issues. Can be crowded but wasn't too bad in early evening, and there was more wildlife. The Narrows- NEOPRENE SOCKS in the Narrows. They cost $25. Wear them inside any sturdy shoe or boot and you'll be fine. The neoprene sock is like a wetsuit for your foot. We brought extra junky boots just for the Narrows, but if you are flying or otherwise unable to bring extra shoes, Special Shoe Rentals are also available right outside the Park if you prefer. If you don't have a hiking stick RENT ONE, it's cheap. DO NOT take break destroy tree branches living or dead. If everyone does that there will be no trees left in the Park. NO INFLATABLES IN THE NARROWS. ILLEGAL AND DANGEROUS. Saw two groups of idiots who thought this might be a good idea, one of them almost knocked me over. You are out of control heading down river at hundreds of people and children. You walked up, you can walk down. YOU CAN FLOAT FOR MILES just outside the Park where it is safe and legal. The Zion National Park website has detailed information on flow rates and what types of hikes are possible in the Narrows, this is a simple bottom up hike. We only went a little over a mile past the paved trail. In winter the water is extremely cold, and for most of Spring the Narrows is closed to hikers due to the high water level from melting snow in the mountains above. We planned our trip in June because although the water level is still relatively high, there is a very low chance of storms that cause flash floods. July-September the water is at its lowest levels but an odd storm can cancel your hike. So we took our chances going early and fortunately the flow receded and the Narrows opened 2 weeks before our arrival. What made it interesting and extra fun was that the water Was still fairly high at 90+ cubic feet per second and still fairly cold- but it was HOT out, at least 95F. The water was super cool and refreshing and everyone made the most of it. You will see quite a few people splashing around just loving it. Later in the Season it may be equally hot, but there won't be enough water for this kind of soaking in most of the Narrows. DO NOT FEED OR HARASS WILDLIFE. The SQUIRREL causes more injuries in Parks than any other animal. Feeding them hurts you and kills them. Human food is not good for wildlife. Stay on Trails in crowded areas. In wilderness areas you are free to explore but in the most overused parts of Parks staying on trails is very important to keeping plants alive and erosion to a minimum. The rental shops are maybe 300 yards from Watchman Campground, and the shuttle will take you outside the Park to the little town. See my full trip video for more on the easy access to the town. http://tinyurl.com/h3nodap THERE WILL BE CROWDS. Zion Canyon is unbelievably beautiful, we all want to see it. Easier to deal with if you are prepared for it. If you want solitude in Zion, go up to Kolob and also see my East Rim hike. Thanks for Watching !! the National Park website or Joe's Guide to Zion can answer many questions, or feel free to ask in the comments below. 0:30 end of paved trail, into the Virgin River 1:18 Mystery Falls with hiker rappelling 4:30 we've been walking in the water, about to hit Wall Street 6:15 just a tiny bit of full on Wall Street 7:30 Narrows. 8:15 INFLATABLES ARE ILLEGAL. you are an out of control missile heading towards a crowd. 9:10 hanging garden, small weeping rock. water drips through some layers of rock, comes out others... 9:44 Emerald Pools Trail, river view 10:56 waterfall, first pool, deer drinking 12:56 views and the National Park joke 13:25 middle pool 14:05 the trail and the upper pool 14:40 Canyon Tree Frogs. girls in background thought they were going to be attacked by sheep
