Unused in-game trade scripts accessed with arbitrary code (Generation I)

Unused in-game trade scripts accessed with arbitrary code (Generation I)

Read description for more information: With Generation I arbitrary code execution, we can access the unused Butterfree for Beedrill trade script in Red/Green/Blue/Yellow, as well as the unused Pidgeot for Pidgeot and Mew for Mew trades in Pokémon Yellow. What are the unused in-game trade scripts?: (Copy and pasted from http://iimarck.us/i/trades/): "All first‐generation games in all languages have unused trade data for an exchange of a Butterfree in return for a Beedrill. In the Japanese Red and Green, the Beedrill was nicknamed “Pipin.” In the Japanese Blue and Yellow and the English Red and Blue, it was nicknamed “Chikuchiku.” In the English Yellow, this was translated as “Stinger.” There are two more unused trades in Yellow. This is because the trades in Cerulean City and Vermilion City were removed. They were replaced with an unused trade of Pidgeot for Pidgeot and Mew for Mew, respectively. Both Pokémon were nicknamed “Matsumiya” in the Japanese version of Yellow, presumably after Toshinobu Matsumiya, who is listed in Yellow’s credits under Game Scenario (but not in earlier versions’ credits). In the English version, these were given nicknames of “Marty” and “Bart.”" --- When you talk to a trade NPC; the game loads an ID into $CD3D (an address used for multiple things, also known as "W_WHICHTRADE") to determine his or her texts, the Pokémon he or she wants, the Pokémon you will receive, and the nickname of the Pokémon you receive. After the initial text finishes, a Yes/No box pops up for you to trade Pokémon. It seems that all trade NPCs may be scripted to say "Okay, connect the cable like so!", and be named "TRAINER" after you receive their Pokémon (regardless the of trader ID) because this applies to many glitch traders in Red and Blue even if they have glitchy other dialog. Most of the valid in-game trader IDs are used, such as 01: Abra for Mr. Mime named "MARCEL" in Red, or Clefairy for Mr. Mime named "MILES" in Yellow. However, ID 02 in Red, Green, Blue (including English Blue?) contain the unused Butterfree for Beedrill trade, and IDs 04 and 06 contain the unused Mew for Mew and Pidgeot for Pidgeot trades, respectively. Trade texts: 06 (Y) - "Hello there! Do you want to trade your PIDGEOT for PIDGEOT?" "Hmmm? This isn't PIDGEOT. Think of me when you get one." "Okay, connect the cable like so! "Thanks!" "Hello there! Your old PIDGEOT is magnificent!" 04 (Y) - "Hi! Do you have MEW? Want to trade it for MEW?" "...This is no MEW. If you get one, trade it with me!" "Okay, connect the cable like so! "Thanks, pal!" "How is my old Mew? My Mew is doing great!" 02 (R, Y): "Hi! Do you have BUTTERFREE? Want to trade it for BEEDRILL?" "...This is no BUTTERFREE. If you get one, trade it with me!" "Thanks, pal!" "How is my old BEEDRILL? My BUTTERFREE is doing great!" Repeat an in-game trade (Pokémon Red/Green/Blue JP)

Repeat an in-game trade (Pokémon Red/Green/Blue JP)

This is a glitch in the Japanese Red/Green/Blue Pokémon games. By pressing Select on an item before talking to a in-game trade NPC and then swapping a Pokémon on the party menu before trading, we can cause the game to allow us to initiate the in-game trade again after the trade is completed, provided you have another relevant in-game trade Pokémon to offer. If you do not do the Select glitch before trading the Pokémon you will only get to trade once, but this glitch allows us to repeat the trade for possibly an unlimited number of times. Source: Legendary Star Blob 2 http://hakuda2.web.fc2.com/wario/poke2/r30.html Additional information (thanks to a user in the comments for pointing it out). "The page in the description has an addendum: http://hakuda2.web.fc2.com/wario/poke2/r47.html Seems like the glitch causes the flag for inGameTrades[item number] to be set, instead of whatever the intended trade flag was. This means if you want to trade infinitely you should Select the third item since that slot corresponds to one of the unused trades (Pipin the Beedril)"

All In-Game Trades (Pokemon Black/White)

Munchlax can only be traded for in Summer. Basculin will be red in Pokemon Black, and blue in Pokemon White. In Pokemon Black the trainer will request a Cottonee for a Petilil and the reverse in White. ------------------------------------------------Patreon------------------------------------------------ Link: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3640186 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have any games you want walkthroughs/solutions to and they're not featured on my channel, then send me a message and I'll see what I can do. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We finish up the last four in-game trades (Still one more to do, but we'll save that for the bonus episodes!), and get extremely confused and flustered along the way. Some things never change! Enjoy!
